Blockhill is located in rural North Canterbury, an hour and a half north of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand.
We are situated near the small settlement of Cheviot in an area called the Hurunui district, named after a prominent river.
Blockhill provides a feeling of isolation while remaining accessible to all major destinations and attractions. Our serene setting, beneath a clear starry sky leaves visitors feeling relaxed and at peace with themselves and the world.
When coming from the South - Head north past Cheviot on highway 1 for about 15 minutes, cross the Waiau river and past Parnassus. Leader Road East is on the left just before the bridge. Blockhill is on the right just after the windy dip.
When coming from the North - From Kaikoura head south on highway 1 for about 50 minutes. Leader Road is on the right immediately after crossing the Leader River bridge. Blockhill is on the right just after the windy dip.
When coming from the West (Waiau, Hanmer Springs, Inland Kaikoura) Pass through Waiau village and head North East out of town, up the hill on Leader Road West. Drive for about 20 minutes. The road name becomes East at the top of the big hill. Blockhill is on the left just before the road drops down into a windy dip.
