We've just had a week of damp weather so it's perfect timing to mulch and retain that soil moisture. Today we took delivery of 12 large bales of old straw. That's over 15 cubic meters of compressed cereal straw, weed seed free. Time to get working.
Mulching is the practice or process of covering the soil with a thick layer of organic matter. This has a number of benefits depending on the mulch material and desired outcomes. Some of the advantages include preventing moisture evaporation, smothering weeds, feeding soil life and increasing soil carbon and water holding capacity. Use as much mulch as you can get your hands on.
